WHAT IS OPEN WORK PERMIT CANADA?

An open work permit is a Canadian work authorization, limited to eligible applicants living in Canada. This type of work permit allows you, to work for any employer during the spousal sponsorship process or the validity of the study permit or work permit of your spouse or common law-partner
WHO CAN APPLY FOR SPOUSE OPEN WORK PERMIT?
You may be eligible for an open work permit if one of the followings describe your situation:
1. You are in Canada and being sponsored as a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or accompanying dependent child.
2. You are the spouse, common-law partner or dependent child of a low- or high-skilled worker.
3. You are a dependent family member of someone who applied for permanent residence.
4. You are the spouse or common-law partner of an applicant of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program or the Atlantic Immigration Program.
5. You are the spouse or common-law partner of an international student in Canada, that one of these situations applies to his case:
5.1. Studying a master's or doctoral degree program or
5.2. Participating in an eligible pilot program, such as Le projet de reconnaissance des compétences d'infirmières et d'infirmiers recruté-e-s à l'international or
5.3. Studying in one of the following professional programs at a Canadian university:
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS, DMD)
  • Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor (LLB, JD, BCL)
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)
  • Doctor of Optometry (OD)
  • Pharmacy (PharmD, BS, BSc, BPharm)
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN, BSN, BNSc)
  • Bachelor of Education (BEd)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (BEng, BE, BASc)
